Rising Through the Flood: A Community-Led Relief Effort in Garo Hills
Tura, October 8 – In the wake of relentless, torrential rains that battered Garo Hills for nearly four days, the region witnessed more than just landslides, submerged roads, and flooded homes. It also witnessed unity, compassion, and a powerful spirit of resilience.
As the people of Garo Hills struggle to regain a sense of normalcy, two local entrepreneurs stepped up to make a difference. Our very own Mark Pantora M Sangma, founder of Baghmara Campers, and Gaurab Modak, owner of the beloved Biryanis & Rolls restaurant in Hawakhana, Tura, joined hands to provide flood relief to those most affected by the disaster.
Their mission was simple but profound: to reach the unreachable and support the vulnerable.

Relief for Chiganggare and Hajong Basti
Backed by the energy and visibility of Kimo Vlogs, a well-known YouTuber from the region, the team extended their aid to Chiganggare and Hajong Basti, two villages in South Garo Hills under Gasuapara Block that were severely impacted by the floods.
Despite facing treacherous road conditions, waterlogging, and landslides, the team successfully carried out their relief operations over two days. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of donors, ₹21,500 was raised to fund the relief efforts.
What We Provided
With the funds collected, the team was able to distribute essential supplies, including:
- Mattresses
- Mineral water
- Rice, dal, sugar, and salt
- Edible oil
- Clothing
Every item was carefully selected to meet the immediate needs of flood-affected families, helping them get through these difficult times with dignity and comfort.

“We are immensely grateful to everyone who contributed. Your support has made a real difference in the lives of those facing distress,” said the organizers.
